SUMMARY OF 2008-9

Resident Ceramist Artist - Lynne Waylen

Building on our work with the blacksmith artist last year, the children spent a very enjoyable and creative week and a bit working with pottery.  Lynne Waylen worked with all the children on sculptures for the walls of our new building.  They were based on creation stories and one represents the Christian creation story and the other an Aboriginal creation story.

You are most welcome to come and see both our metal sculptures based in the spritual area and our wall sculputures.  Please contact the school office if you are interested.

The Arts

Arts Mark - Gold - we continue to work within our Arts mark status. Here are a few things we did this year.... The choir, orchestra, dance and drama clubs went into one club callling itself  'The Show Group' which  put on a second, extremely successful production of the 'The Key Master' in the Summer term of 2008 which they showed to their parents and to the school.  It was enjoyed by all. The school presented 'The Nativity' to the parents at Christmas which was a mixture of carols and drama.

We had a number of  travelling theatre companies come in to show the school:  a pantomime for Christmas, also another company came and performed a  drama with science at its heart ..Year 8s from Bohunt community school came and performed 'Rocking back to happiness' - a rock and roll show.   All the children who study musical instruments performed to the school showing us the results of a year's hard work.

Healthy Schools

Healthy Schools Status - enhanced. We continue to keep our school a healthy one as befits our status, not only physically but also our children are happy to learn. We have also renewed our Active Mark. Not only do we teach our children about healthy eating but we provide many different types of physical exercise in the form of a good P.E. curriculum within school and clubs out of school hours. The children are given opportunities to attend tournaments and take part in matches eg football, tag rugby, athletics, tennis, kwik cricket,  rounders etc  We follow  the 'Rights, Respect and Responisibilities' programme based on the United Nations Rights of the Child.  The children continue to be represented by the 'Young Governors' who are elected by their peers and who meet regularly to discuss topics such as ..'how to make their play area better for everyone!'  We also took part in 'Blue Friday' a national anti-bullying week and 'Friendship Friday' when we all wore white to signify peace and friendship.
